NPWS "2012 Captain Lou Albano Memorial J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament
Belleville, NJ Knights of Columbus Hall
August 17, 2012

Friday night August 17th, National Pro Wrestling Superstars kicked off its huge double-tournament weekend at the Belleville, NJ Knights of Columbus Hall with the 2012 Captain Lou Albano Memorial J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament. An enthusiastic crowd, but being one of the smallest venues ever to host this annual event it was one of the smallest J-Cup Tag-Team crowds, was on hand to cheer all the action, and action they got, as this was hailed as one of the best (if not *the* best) J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament ever presented.

The show opened with the introduction of the twelve teams in the Class Of 2012:

Ring announcer Johnny Falco explained the rules. The six qualifying round matches and three semifinal matches would have a ten-minute time-limit. If there was no winner after ten minutes, the match would go into a five-minute sudden-death overtime. If there was no winner by the end of the overtime period, the fans would vote for the winning team. The final match would be a three-way tag-team explosion with *no* time limit.

Qualifying Round results:

  1. The M&M Boys (Mark Modest & Mike Matixx) defeated "Too Hot" Steve Scott & J.T. Highlander when, after a good back and forth match, Modest pinned Steve after a Matixx superkick'ed him in the corner.
  2. Jeff "Cannonball" Guerrero & "The Warrior" Jack Spade scored an upset victory over 2011 J-Cup Tag-Team winners Team Delaware ("Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie & "The White Urkel" B. Fehrm). Despite their differences, Smoothie & Fehrm were clearly holding their own against Cannonball and Spade, until Smoothie was holding Cannonball for Fehrm to deliver a lariat, but Cannonball ducked and Fehrm accidentally took out his own partner instead. Fehrm took down Cannonball with a Nerd Cutter, but an angry Smoothie recovered and took out Fehrm with a boot to the face and an F-5. Cannonball took advantage and flattened Fehrm in the corner with a Cannonball Roll and covered him for the 1-2-3.
  3. NPWS Tag-Team Champions The 2 Rude Dudes ("Corrupted" Corey Havoc & Rampage Rogers) defeated Gavone Brothers member "Smiling" Smith James & Merrill "The Prodigy" Richardson. Smith James used his size advantage to dominate Havoc and Rogers early, but the tag champs were able to dominate the NPWS rookie Prodigy (who was a last-minute substitution for Smith's partner Vic). Despite Smith James tagging back in and cleaning house at the end, Rampage took Smith out, and Havoc blasted Prodigy in the face with a handful of powder and pinned him 1-2-3.
  4. The Whiz Kids (Eddie "Spaghetti" Franken & Chris "Boom-Boom" Powers) defeated Richard Michaels & Johnny Knockout. The match was an even fight, and it reached the ten-minute time limit just as Powers had Knockout pinned after a flying dropkick. The match went into overtime, and the battle continued, but as Knockout had Eddie up in the air for a powerbomb, the five-minute overtime period ended without a winner. As per the rules, the fans got to pick the winner, and they were nearly unanimously in favor of The Whiz Kids.
  5. "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto & "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans defeated Eric Corvis & K.C. Keraff. The veteran Corvis, making his return to NPWS in-ring action after a very long absence, held Demanto & Oceans mostly at bay, but Keraff, another last-minute replacement, was not so lucky, and after a hard-hitting match he fell victim to Oceans' "Boom-Boom-Pow" finisher and was pinned.
  6. Team Jersey Shore (ROH Star Rhett "The Threat" Titus & "Jersey Shore Jock" Mike Dennis) defeated The Rock And Roll Lords ("Retro Rocker" Rikki Roxx & The Jersey Kidd). Roxx & Kidd gave the veteran Titus and Mike Dennis all they could handle, and kept the match even most of the way, almost upsetting them with a pair of Crisis Kicks and a near-fall towards the end. But Dennis and Titus reversed things and smashed Roxx and The Kidd into each other, then took them down with tandem DDT's and pinned them.

NPWS took a brief intermission, which included an appearance by Captain America, and the celebrating of birthdays.

In the first Semifinal Match, "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto & "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans took on Jeff "Cannonball" Guerrero & "The Warrior" Jack Spade. Before the match, Oceans and Demanto taunted and insulted long-time NPWS fan Robert Puglisi who was sitting at ringside. Demanto & Oceans were unable to get any offense on the powerful Cannonball, but they were able to focus on and dominate the less experienced Spade. Cannonbal eventually tagged back in and cleaned house and flattened Demanto in the corner, but Demanto tossed Cannonball out, and the fight soon went to the floor. Demanto smashed Spade into a row of chairs, while Cannonball went after Oceans in the ring and nearly had him beaten until Demanto interfered. While Cannonball tried to take down Demanto, Oceans went after NPWS fan Robert Puglisi and threatened to hit him until Spade knocked him away. Meanwhile back in the ring, Cannonball took down Demanto, and brought a wooden door into the ring to smash Demanto through, but Demanto reversed things and speared Cannonball through the door and pinned him 1-2-3.
Winners and advancing to the Finals: "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto & "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans

After the match, Demanto grabbed NPWS fan Robert Puglisi and took him down to the floor with a Full Nelson, and he and Oceans attacked him until Security broke it up.

In the second Semifinal Match, The M&M Boys (Mark Modest & Mike Matixx) took on Team Jersey Shore (ROH Star Rhett "The Threat" Titus & "Jersey Shore Jock" Mike Dennis). Despite their longer experience as a tag-team, Modest & Matixx could not put away the veteran Titus and Dennis. After Modest missed a flying headbutt towards the end, Dennis took him down with a superkick and a neckbreaker while Titus held his feet, and Titus covered Modest for the 1-2-3.
Winners and advancing to the finals: Team Jersey Shore (ROH Star Rhett "The Threat" Titus & "Jersey Shore Jock" Mike Dennis)

In the third and final Semifinal Match, NPWS Tag-Team Champions The 2 Rude Dudes ("Corrupted" Corey Havoc & Rampage Rogers) took on The Whiz Kids (Eddie "Spaghetti" Franken & Chris "Boom-Boom" Powers). Havoc and Rampage belittled Eddie and Chris for advancing to the Semifinals without having actually defeating any opponents, but the Whiz Kids showed they were ready to compete with the tag champs, attacking them before the bell, and used their speed to counter Havoc & Rampage's strength and experience. Havoc & Rampage were able to isolate Powers in their corner for several minutes, but Powers withstood the assault long enough to tag in Franken. Powers & Franken tossed the Dudes outside the ring, and took them out with double flying planchas. Powers dragged Havoc back in the ring, hit him with a Moonsault, and had him covered for the 1-2-3, but Rampage pulled Havoc out of the ring. Havoc and Rampage signaled they had had enough, and headed for the door. Franken and Powers berated them to return to the ring, but while their and the referee's attention was focused on Havoc & Rampage, Richard Michaels & Johnny Knockout snuck into the ring and leveled Franken & Powers with Wet Floor signs, obvious payback from their earlier match. Havoc and Rampage returned to the ring, and Havoc planted Powers into the mat with a flying piledriver from the top rope, and pinned him 1-2-3.
Winners and advancing to the finals: The 2 Rude Dudes ("Corrupted" Corey Havoc & Rampage Rogers)

In a special Ladies Match, former WSU World Champion Alicia took on 2012 NPWS/WSU King & Queen Of The Ring co-holder Jennifer Cruz. The feisty Cruz, claiming to still be undefeated in WSU, gave the veteran Alicia all she could handle. After Alicia missed a vertical splash, Cruz hit  a lariat on her and nearly got the three-count. An angry Cruz grabbed Referee Mike Jones and threatened to hit him. This gave Alicia enough time to recover, and she grabbed Cruz and planted her into the mat with an Alicia-Bomb and pinned her 1-2-3.
Winner: Alicia

The Final Match of the Tournament was a Triple-Threat Tag-Team Match between the three remaining teams, "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto & "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans, Team Jersey Shore (ROH Star Rhett "The Threat" Titus & "Jersey Shore Jock" Mike Dennis), and NPWS Tag-Team Champions The 2 Rude Dudes ("Corrupted" Corey Havoc & Rampage Rogers). Mike Dennis came out with his shoulder taped up from an apparent injury in his Semifinal Match, but he refused to bow out of the match or even take it easy, as he and Titus waged war along with the other two teams. Being triple-threat, anyone could tag in anyone, and Titus tagged in Rampage while Havoc was in, and the referee ordered Havoc and Rampage to wrestle each other. The two had a mock face-off before they came up with the idea that Havoc could pin his own partner and win the match, but their opponents broke up that idea in a hurry. Titus and Dennis continued to dominate, but their opponents soon attacked Dennis' injured shoulder and worked him over for the next several minutes. Dennis took a superplex from Oceans, a Full Nelson submission hold from Demanto, and countless attacks from both, but would not give up. Havoc & Rampage tagged in and worked over Dennis some more, but he withstood the assault and tagged in Titus who cleaned house on both. Titus took down Rampage and covered him for the pin, but Oceans broke it up. Havoc took down Oceans with a crucifix slam, but Mike Dennis broke up the pin. Dennis tried to pick Havoc up for a crucifix slam, but his injured shoulder wasn't up to the task, so he superkicked him instead, but Demanto broke up the pin, and planted Dennis into the mat with a side facebuster. Titus charged back at Demanto and leveled him with a bulldog, but Rampage broke up that pin attempt. Dennis and Titus took down Demanto with a double facebuster, but Havoc pulled Titus out of the ring and took him down, then with help from Rampage, planted Dennis into the mat with a flying piledriver from the top rope and pinned him 1-2-3.

Havoc and Rampage celebrated their win as the other members of the Class Of 2012 came out to the ring to congratulate them, as the show closed.
